Potočka Cave

Road from Solčava to Rogar normally drivable, ideal also for sledding. Parked under Rogar, then on skis all the way to Potočka cave. Trail is nicely trodden too. In the cave it's a fairytale. Further toward Govec no trail, and conditions not safe enough yet. Skied the gully under Zijalka. Had to take off skins for a couple meters just at the bottom and poke a bit with ice axe, because not enough firm snow to fill that drop. Further on ok again.
Regards from under nice Mozirska planina, Janez.

Road from Solčava to Rogar normally drivable. We parked below Rogar. The track was already nicely made. In Zijalka today a real fairy-tale land. Further towards Govec no track and conditions not safe enough yet. Marija and Janez enjoyed.

Road from Solčava to Sv. Duh is normally drivable. We parked at Strevec. There is little snow, but it is dry and hides ice underneath in many places. So you need to be extra careful when walking, otherwise it can hurt.eek Small crampons are not superfluous. Further towards Obel kamen the path is without issues according to those met. In Zijalka today slightly smaller icicles, but still fairy-tale like. Marija and Janez enjoyed.
Best regards and safe steps from under the beautiful Golte, Janez.

nice, I see the snow has melted a lot... the ice candles are smaller this year than usual because autumn was dry, otherwise it's always nice in these areas... nice photosnasmeh

Today's fairytale in Potočka cave. Yesterday a larger group of hikers from PD Nazarje made the trail to Zijalka, so my son and I had to use it today. It was wonderful. Road is better drivable from Logarska dolina than from Solčava. Problem at the bridge over Macesnik slide. It's quite icy. Still lots of snow. Stalactites in Zijalka are quite big. Further to Obel stone and Govec no trail. To Zijalka just good footwear needed, further up crampons and what's needed.
Nice regards and safe steps from under nice Golte, Janez

On Saturday, 10.10.2020, family trip (3 two-legs and 4 four-legs) to Potočka cave, where we were first time. Impressed by cave size, of course its history, most by the view that Neanderthals and cromagnons had from in front of the cave. Insanely nice nasmeh Of course conditions today totally different, especially more snowy than on Saturday when it was pleasantly warm and later sunny too. As I see, need to visit cave also in winter when hundreds of ice stalactites and stalagmites "grow" in it.

All as planned. Unmarked path from Lipše gates to Obel kamen is very steep. Then along the ridge to Govec and back the classic way. It was a nice autumn hike. nasmeh
Best regards.

Has anyone been to Potočka zijalka recently and knows what the path up is like? And what's the road from Solčava to Rogar like?

They were there (nice ice candles in the cave), the path is trodden, the road to the farm looked OK too. Written from impressions via IG.

Potočka Zijalka 02.02.2021:
We parked at Rogar. The old trail was covered with up to 20cm of powder snow. Walking was quite pleasant. More caution needed when crossing three narrow avalanche slopes just before Zijalka. Crampons and ice axe are really useful there.
Ice stalactites are quite nice so we enjoyed the cave for a long time and admired its beauties. Outside during snack we enjoyed the wonderful panorama of KSA.
Could see very far. On descent we enjoyed the view of Karavanke with očak in background and home KSA.
We had a great time.
Road from Solčava to Rogar was snowy and passable with winter gear. Even more snowy further to Pavličevo sedlo and through Matkov kot to Logarska dolina.
Best regards and safe steps to all from under beautiful Golte, Janeznasmeh

Janez, very nice and even nicer photos nasmeh This winter I probably won't get to see the stalactites nor any of the next ones. I was already thrilled by the cave in autumn, in winter it'd probably be even better nasmeh
