Description:
Alpine betony (Stachys alpina) is an erect member of the Lamiaceae family that can exceed 1 meter in height. It is a herbaceous perennial. It has petiolate, ovate-lanceolate, crenate-margined leaves that are sparsely to moderately hairy, as is the stem, with glandular hairs. In the upper part of the stem, flowers are arranged in whorls, pink to dark red in color. They have bracts that are distinctly longer than the flowers.
Grows in forests, on clearings, scree, and rocky shrubby slopes in the montane and subalpine belts throughout Slovenia, but is not very common. Blooms in July and August. Also present elsewhere in Europe in the temperate climate zone.

It is quite common, but we don't pay much attention to these labiates on mountain paths. I'll photograph it next year.
