Description: The extensive ruins are located on a forward mountain cone of the Saualpe in the Trixnertal. It is the most significant fortification in this castle-rich valley. Castle Waisenberg is said to have been given by King Arnulf in 895 to Count Wilhelm of Gurk. Saint Hemma (Countess of Friesach-Zeltschach) transferred it around 1043 to the Gurk nunnery. In 1072 it came to the Diocese of Gurk. This frequently granted Waisenberg as a fief.
