Description:
The extensive ruin is located on an advanced mountain cone in the Trixnertal, in the northwest of the Carinthian district capital Völkermarkt. It is the most significant fortress in this castle-rich valley.
The remaining structures are attributable to Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance periods. Waisenberg together with the ruins of Obertrixen and Mittertrixen, located within a radius of about 1000 m, belongs to the so-called Trixner Castles, which, supplemented by the Niedertrixen ruin, form the Trixner Castle Group.
