© CLAUDIO MORTINI ★ Scheggino is a hillside castle triangular in shape, with a keep and watchtower at the top, built on the left bank of the Nera, guarding the ancient road and one of the few river crossings. Its original core dates back to the 13th century, when houses of refugees began to be added to the pre-existing tower after the destruction of the nearby Pozzano Castle.
