Just over 2600 inhabitants live in the Italian municipality of Wolkenstein (Selva di Val Gardena). Together with St. Christina and St. Ulrich, Wolkenstein belongs to the three municipalities of the Grödnertal in South Tyrol, Italy. Official languages are German, Italian and Ladin – an ancient Romance dialect mainly spoken in Gröden, Gadertal, Fassatal, Buchenstein and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Ladin name for Wolkenstein is Sëlva.
