Description:
Monte Alto (2,593 m) in Val Casies is an easy and very popular ski touring excursion.
Route: The starting point for this ski touring excursion is the parking lot near Rifugio Fondovalle in Val Casies at S. Maddalena, from this parking lot we ascend along the ski slope, also looking back at the valley floor. At the end of the slope we turn left onto a forest road, shortly after we reach malga Aschtalm, from here we ascend towards Malge Pfinnalm (2,152 m), near the Pfinnalm huts the terrain widens and gentle, well-skiable slopes open up before our eyes. The saddle between Monte Alto and Piccolo Monte Alto is already visible and is now our intermediate goal. The terrain is relatively flat, only shortly before reaching the saddle it becomes a bit steeper. Deposit skis at the saddle, continue on foot to the left towards the highest point of the mountain Monte Alto, crossing the rocky ridge. The summit offers a splendid 360° view, including the Dolomites.
