Description:
Built in 1989 - the scientific specification was the famous Stonehenge in southern England (Neolithic and early Bronze Age cult site). This Ulm "Mini-Stonehenge" consists of 12 stone stelae (12 months) arranged circularly in a radius of 12 meters. The stones are placed to maintain both a geographical east-west and north-south direction. On the days of the summer and winter solstice, certain points within the stone circle are illuminated through the stone gate. The solstices are the reversal in the sun's declination movement, occurring on June 22 at the greatest northern declination (summer solstice) and December 22 at the greatest southern declination (winter solstice).
