Of the three weeks which I spent in Indonesia I most enjoyed the time on Java. Although Java is very close to Bali, there are many cultural differences. It starts with different religious believes and goes on to the fact that there are no stray dogs on Java, unlike on Bali. What both islands definitely have in common is the culture of welcome. And since Java is not as touristic as its smaller neighbour, most of the Javanese people will greet strangers with curiosity.
