Description: The verticality of the dolomitic walls of the Grand Hoche massif as seen from Beaulard in Upper Valle di Susa (Turin) has always impressed me. Almost twenty years ago one summer, as a boy, I decided with a friend to try climbing to the top in two days, starting from the valley floor equipped with two boy scout backpacks each weighing at least 15 kg. However, fear stopped me from proceeding in sight of Ricovero XI when the trail to Passo dell'Orso began to narrow and traverse steep scree slopes. We then opted for a quieter but long itinerary through Passo della Mulattiera, Col des Acles, Tour Jaune de Barabbas, and Colle della Scala.
