Albert Mummery He was truly one of the pioneers in the history of mountaineering. Mummery and the two gurkhas Thapa and Singh disappeared on 24 August, in 1895, somewhere along the Diamir face of Nanga Parbat, during what was the first real attempt to climb an 8000er.
