Description: Stužica is a national nature reserve, original Carpathian primeval forest, stretching in a deep valley around the Stužica River on the border of Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine in the Bukovské Hills – in Poloniny National Park – near the easternmost Slovak village of Nová Sedlica. It protects a complex of natural beech and fir-beech stands of primeval character with forest structure in all stages of development. The primeval forest is home to many original Carpathian and also several endemic species of plants, fungi and animals. Stužica is among the most significant protected areas in Slovakia.
