Description:
Šimonka is the highest peak of the Slanské vrchy, which represent the most extensive volcanic mountain range in eastern Slovakia. On this otherwise forested peak, there is a small unforested area with a protruding rock that offers beautiful views. Under favorable conditions, one can see as far as the High Tatras or Kráľova hoľa. In the southern part of the peak, where a tourist trail also leads, lies the Šimonka nature reserve characterized by old primeval forest stands.
