Description: On the castle hill, a fortification already existed before the first millennium. As a masonry hilltop castle, Senftenberg was built by the high free lords of Lengenbach, who sat on Rehberg. Between 1197 and 1200, a 'Ruedeger de Senftenberc' is mentioned. Through marriage, the lordship passed to the Kuenringer Wichard I of Zöbing. After the extinction of the Zöbingers in 1232, the castle fell to Karl von Gutrat. After some inheritances and divisions of possession, Eberhard von Wallsee acquired the property, which was mostly managed by stewards. In the dispute over the guardianship of Duke Albrecht V, Reinprecht von Wallsee became the opponent of Duke Leopold IV.
