Description:
According to legend, the castle got its name from Hajnácska, the daughter of leader Huba, to whom her father gifted Ajnácskő. The first written mention of the fortress built on the volcanic cone dates from before the Tatar invasion, when Palóc border guards built a fortress on top of the rock. Later, around 1255, ispán Bata began building the Gothic stone castle. Originally it was a royal castle and a lordship seat, to which another 20 villages belonged. In 1649 it came to Sándor Vécsey, who rebuilt and strengthened it with a firm hand.
