Description:
Difficulty level: EASY. Both can be done by children too. From Passo Giau: signpost no. 443, skirting the southeast side of the group where, after a short up and down, we meet the junction no. 438 which, in about 20' takes us to the start of the equipped trail and from there in about 1.00h to the summit where we meet the picturesque and oldest Dolomite CAI refuge: Rifugio Nuvolau. From the refuge, a comfortable little steep trail descends along the north side of Nuvolau, right in front of Monte Averau (the highest in the small group), reaching shortly the wide saddle of Forcella Nuvolau (25'), where the beautiful Rifugio Averau stands and where a chairlift arrives from Rifugio Fedare (on the Selva di Cadore-Passo Giau road). From here we start the AVERAU VIA FERRATA whose start begins after about 10 minutes of walking. It starts with an exposed wall and some non-trivial passages, then becomes easy. It is really short (15'), from here then the trail takes us to the summit cross (15'). The negative thing about this ferrata is the return, which is the same path downhill, so jams and crowds are frequent.
