Qurnat as Sawda is the highest point in Lebanon and the Levant, at 3,088 meters above sea level. Qurnat as Sawda means in Arabic 'the black peak' due to its permanent snowless peak. Facing permanent wind, snow is unable to fix on the peak, creating a black spot surrounded by snow.
