Plitvice Lakes National Park is a special geological and hydrogeological karst phenomenon. The Plitvice Lakes complex was declared a national park on April 8, 1949. It is the largest, oldest and most visited Croatian national park. It represents a forested mountainous area with 16 lakes of various sizes filled with crystal-clear blue-green water.
