Pizzo Grande del Sornadello (Val Brembana)

Description:
Arriving at Cornalita (upper hamlet of San Giovanni Bianco in Val Brembana), we leave the car near a fountain/washhouse [8:35]. Nearby starts our trail which we abandon (to the right) upon reaching a crucifix. The new route climbs among rocky towers named 'Passo lumaca'. Steep, wild and sometimes protected by steel cables, after much elevation gain it reaches 'Baita Carlo' [10:05]. Resuming the ascent through the beech forest, guided by sparse white blazes, we reach 'Baita del Sornadello' at 1370 m a.s.l. [10:45]. Passing some hunting huts quickly we reach the cross of 'Pizzo Grande' at 1574 m [11:15]. Signed the summit log and admired the vast summit panorama, we do not take the trail under the cross because steep and snowy. But we return towards Baita Sornadello, diverting left to the underlying stable [11:55]. After a stop, we resume descending via another trail and steep gullies: passing some ruins (Gioana Bela?), we reach Cornalita [13:40].
