Description: The highest summit of South Tyrol, Ortles 3905m, as well as all the Alps east of the Bernina, with overnight at Rifugio Julius Payer. The normal route, ascending from the north, the easiest technically, should not be underestimated both because it is exposed in places and for the glacier, with seracs and crevasses, in the section preceding Bivacco Lombardi at 3316 m. The previous rocky sections are equipped with metal ropes, ladders and chains. In case of bad weather or fog, the upper part of the route on the glacier, with little slope and no reference points, can be difficult. Ascent to be undertaken with absolutely safe weather, rated PD+.
