Description:
28-12-2022: The nativity scene by Francesco Orazio, 52 years old from Cavallino-Treporti, fruit vendor by profession, was instead created in the Pordelio canal, at the height of the Zanetti restaurant. It is a Nativity that the craftsman has been making for ten years as the culmination of a passion he has had since childhood. This year the location is back to the origins, always the Venetian lagoon, but in the Pordelio canal, in Cavallino-Treporti, at Ca' Ballarin where there is also ample ideal space for those who want to admire the work from the mainland. About seventy statues make up the scene of Jesus' birth, all in marine plywood, about 1.70 meters tall, all designed and entirely handmade by Francesco Orazio who also takes care of their painting and obviously their installation in the lagoon. Exactly as it has been for ten years. "The set up scene is the classic Nativity, with the birth of Jesus explains the creator but this year too there are new statues, about twenty, because if the reproduction reflects the classic setting, every year I try to introduce new statues. The choice of Pordelio canal? We returned to the origins, we submitted the authorizations late and this is a solution that protects us from bad weather even if after the experience of two years ago the statues are anchored to the bottom." The nativity will be visible until after Epiphany. For both, there are already numerous visitors these days. In the case of the ancient lagoon village, the nativity was created by the Borgo di Lio Piccolo association, at the height of Lio Piccolo square, on board a typical lagoon boat on which the nativity figurines were placed. Around there are also depictions of flamingos which are increasingly numerous on these mudflats.
