Description:
We start at 8:00 from the locality of CORTEBONA (1766 m), reached by dirt road beyond the village of Canè (Val Camonica - Brescia), and enter the beautiful valley of pastures and larches. After an hour, we stop for a few minutes at the 'Bivacco Valzeroten' (2206 m), resuming the easy ascent on CAI trail no. 165 to the 'Laghetti di Pietra Rossa' (2585 m) and the 'Passo di Canè' (2674 m) at 10:30. Here begins the most demanding part of the hike. Turning right towards 'Cima di Pietra Rossa', in a solitude of rocks with some very steep sections, at one point we search for 'Cima MONTICELLO' (3152 m). Personally, I came here in October 2006; then the 'Vedretta del Monticello' existed, a small glacier now extinct. Now the tormented summit plateau is an extensive scree of rocks with tiny icy remains. Thus, it is difficult to spot our goal, which (at one point) we declare: 'MONTICELLO' the one that appears to be the highest knoll (at 12:10).
