Description:
Monte Gavia is the namesake of the famous Gavia Pass in the Sobretta-Gavia Group in the Lombard Alps. Located directly at Rifugio Bonetta, I park the car and hike the first elevation meters on a well-developed former nearly 100-year-old military road. The whole thing resembles more of a walk than a mountain tour. But: suddenly it gets steep and the path winds steeply up along the ridge. On the last section, hands are even needed occasionally. Arriving at the forepeak, I look over to the main summit and decide not to climb it - I'm missing the equipment and the fog denies me sufficient visibility.
