Ascent starting from the San Nicolás de Bujaruelo refuge. Following the red-and-white GR markers, we head to Collado de Bujaruelo, but just before reaching it, we branch right onto a path that, over rocky terrain, skirts the Gabietos. We pass a col and enter a small rocky valley before climbing the steep slope that takes us to Forqueta de Gabieto. From there, we first glimpse the spectacular Faja de Escuzana. To reach it, over very broken terrain, we must first head toward the Escuzana ravine/valley, easily recognizable as it is curiously bicolor (half ochre, half gray). We cross it at its base, and a little further on, a large cairn marks the start of the Faja. The path is wide and not dangerous (though one must never let one's guard down). With continuous ups and downs, we traverse it, with spectacular views over Peña de Otal and Tendeñera. Just before the end, we encounter a 3-meter-high wall blocking the path. It's not hard to get over, but the rock is quite polished with few holds. After crossing it, we ascend a scree slope (faint but marked path) to the col between Escuzana and Mondarruego, and overcome the final slope, also via a marked path through the scree, to the summit.
