Description:
The castle is first mentioned in 1165. The first owners of what was once the largest castle in the Mühlviertel were the 'Lords and Advocates of Perg'. It fell to the Babenberg territorial lord at the latest after their extinction in 1191. It probably belonged to those estates confiscated in 1180 by Babenberg Duke Leopold V and later returned as a fief to Friedrich II of Perg.
