20/8/17 Ascent to the summit of M. Ponteranica 2378m passing the lakes
The trail starts from the Piani dell'Avaro, near the hotel (1702 m). A section of dirt road is followed uphill (north direction). After about 10-15 minutes a signposted junction is reached: left is trail 109A which intersects trail 101 towards Rifugio Benigni, right continues 109. Climb decisively right to intersect trail 101. Then continue right (east) along trail 101 at altitude until the junction for the lakes. Leave trail 101 which descends sharply from here and turn left, gain a few meters of elevation and continue on a sidehill path to the basin of Laghi di Ponteranica (2115 m).
