Description:
What barely works as a ski tour with little snow can now be easily done on foot—the Kampenwand today. From Aschau comfortably via hiking trail and forest road up to Steinlingalm, then a bit more alpinely into a dramatically beautiful rock landscape. The footpack snow was so good that no crampons were needed. Sure-footedness and no fear of heights are required, but even the 'shaky spot' is harmless thanks to the steel cable. The huge summit cross alone is worth the trip, as is the view. The mountain isn't lonely in winter either, but definitely quieter than in summer.
