Famous alpine pass: it is the third highest road pass in Europe and the second highest in Italy after Passo dello Stelvio, the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France have passed through it several times for their mountain GPs. In winter it is kept closed due to the altitude and the constant avalanche danger along the asphalt road.
