Description:
The castle was built in the 12th century on a rock spur and is first mentioned in records in 1156. The present ruins lie 6.4 km southwest of Gföhl on the right bank of the Krems.
Already in 1456 the castle is referred to as desolate, and the former not particularly extensive castle complex is now in a state of progressive decay.
