Description: Sorry for the finger in the frame, I noticed it only at home... Colle Fauniera connects Valle Grana with Vallone dell'Arma in Valle Stura via an asphalt road closed in winter due to constant avalanche danger on both sides. On the col there is a statue dedicated to Marco Pantani (the Giro d'Italia passed here once and the Pirate did one of his climbing feats). Above the col, Cima Fauniera is visible with Punta Parvo and Monte Viridio behind, continuing, the Maritime Alps, closer Monte Savì and Omo, in the distance the mountains of Alta Valle Stura, the chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary in memory of a fallen alpinist around there, beyond Valle Maira and finally the highest mountains of Valle Grana like Tibert and lower down Vallone Fauniera which I ascended. Solo ascent from Santuario di Castelmagno. Ascent made hard by unstable snow, wonderful weather but damn cold, -7 degrees at start, even less on the col.
