Description: 04-09-2022: Route Km. 15.300 Total active and passive elevation Mt. 1421 Not many know this remote corner, guardian of an over-millennial history linked to the mystical figure of a bishop named Lucano. San Lucano valley, in Taibon Agordino municipality, is in itself an earthly paradise. Though severely but not mortally hit by two catastrophes in a row just days apart at the end of 2018, it is now reborn, with nature always patching things up. Today's route climbs nearly 1000m elevation to reach the cave, in spectacular position with one of the most beautiful views. Start from Col di Prà hamlet, at the valley end (accessed from Taibon). Climb shortcuts and dirt road to signage diverting to the cave. Climb even harder until entering the horizontal traverse, very exposed but completely masked by a rhododendron forest. Finally scramble the last meters to the cave. Incredible panorama, left the vertical Pale di San Lucano and right the Agner complex. Sheer walls for 2000m. Return same way up. Worth a short detour to visit and admire Malga Pian de la Stua. Medium difficulty, with necessary attention to the traverse, never difficult but quite exposed.
