Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊ The term Castelli Romani refers to a group of towns or small towns in the Alban Hills a short distance from Rome, in the territory corresponding to ancient Latium Vetus. As reconstructed by the historian Giuseppe Tomassetti (1848-1911), the name dates back to the 14th century when many inhabitants of Rome took refuge in the castles of Roman feudal families to escape the economic and political difficulties arising from the Avignon Captivity.
