Nagy Hideg-hegy is the third highest peak in the Börzsöny at 864 meters. It is located in the Duna-Ipoly National Park, a remnant of a stratovolcano.
The construction of the mountain hut on the peak was started in 1936 by the Nature Lovers' Society, but it was only completed years later thanks to the work of nature friends from Újpest. The hut was the best-equipped house of its time, with electric lighting, running water, and a restaurant.
