Description:
To climb Cima Spessa, you pass through the beautiful village of Bondone (fraction of Storo TN) and then go up a narrow asphalted road to the Alpo locality. Be careful on this road especially at blind curves (little space for maneuvering), but in the end you get there quite well, road surface well maintained. Arrived at Alpo, continue to Malga Alpo di Storo. Instead of going up to the malga, stay on the asphalted road to the end of the asphalt (path 444 sign). Parking convenience. From the parking enter the dense forest and try to follow the white and red signs (some not very evident), skip going to the malga. Up to the saddle where the forest ends, the climb is not so hard, but from this point it gets harder. The path is to be done only when dry, there are slippery sections (especially since you have to descend them). There is a somewhat tough little channel where you need to use your hands. Arrived at the first summit cross, a magnificent 360° panorama awaits us, Cima Spessa is this false wooded plateau that includes the first and second summit cross. Continue north for about 150 meters through mugo pines and after a not easy descent and a short easier ascent you reach the second summit cross of Cima Spessa. The panorama also spans the Ampola valley, and on a nice day the view reaches Latemar and the high peaks of the Adamello and Presanella Alps. The return with the steep descent and the tension not to slip tested the quadriceps. Very short but very rewarding hike. Lunch break at the large Malga Alpo di Storo. On the way back, we stopped at the Bondone village, you can't go deep by car into the narrow ancient alleys. At that moment the villagers were working on the nativity scene in front of their homes. Each nativity scene is also numbered, the raw material 'moss' they go to collect up in the Alpo forests, where in the morning we had met the collectors. They invited us to visit after the Immaculate Conception when all the work for the nativity scenes is finished, and especially in the evening with the Christmas lights. Further down we stopped for a about twenty-minute walk to go to the San Giovanni castle. A fortification that is well maintained externally, too bad it's closed to visitors. This manor is perched on the cliff overlooking part of Lake Idro and part of the Chiese valley. Too bad, we'll try next summer.
