Description: The Cerro Alto del Buitre (3719 m asl) is located southeast of the city of Los Andes (V region, Chile), near summits such as El Pelado, Azules de Vilcuya, among others. Due to access problems (a very recurrent issue in our mountain range), we decided to try a route that is not published, but for which we had background information thanks to the documentation of Víctor Trinidad (Club Andino Patagónico ELAL). Thus, we entered on Saturday, July 10, through the quebrada de Las Gualtatas heading south to set up our camp in the upper part of it. On Sunday the 11th, we attacked the summit advancing along a ridge in the southeast direction, which we connected with the north ridge of the cerro, reaching the summit around 12:00. It was a long access and attack, but beautiful, in a very little-visited sector.
