Branisko is a picturesque and deserted mountain range where canyons, waterfalls and karst caves are hidden. Some peaks offer beautiful views of the Tatras. The Branisko mountains are exceptional in that, as the only one in Slovakia, it does not have a predominant west-east direction, but its ridge runs from north to south. It looks inconspicuous, but in reality it is a relatively steep mountain bastion that has complicated the journey from Spiš to Šariš since ancient times. The highest peak of the Branisko mountains is Smrekovica with an elevation of 1200 m a.s.l. Within Branisko, it is one of the most popular peaks and is located in the northern part of the mountains. It is a well-accessible peak from several directions, yet it is possible that during your ascent you will not encounter a single tourist.
