Description: Tube devices are considered an 'endangered species' in sport climbing because they lack assisted locking and provide no braking effect once the brake-hand principle is violated. However, tubers are still used by very experienced belayers and in competition settings, as they allow very dynamic and smooth belaying. For the average sport climber, tubers are no longer state-of-the-art and are primarily used in alpine climbing.
