Right next to the road in the small village of Mittertrixen on a steep rock hill are the remains of the former Mittertrixen Castle. Due to the heavy and dense tree growth, only a single wall stump can be seen from the road. One notices that it is the Mittertrixen ruin, a large facility with significant wall remnants, as soon as one has climbed the steep castle hill pathlessly. In the Middle Ages, there were three castles in the Trixnertal – Obertrixen, Mittertrixen, and Niedertrixen.
