Along the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo, a stone's throw from Francavilla al Mare and Pescara, lies Ortona, a lively town that perfectly blends beach and cultural tourism thanks not only to its beautiful beaches but also to numerous points of interest. Often considered an excellent starting point for visiting the beauties of this central Italy area, Ortona is nestled between sea and hill and is often regarded as the ideal base for exploring not only the Costa dei Trabocchi but also the Abruzzo Parks. A city with truly ancient origins, Ortona was already considered an important commercial port from the 4th century BC. The town was first dominated by the Romans and then occupied by the Goths, Byzantines, Lombards, and finally in the 11th century by the Normans who set it ablaze. Completely rebuilt during Swabian rule, the city and its noble historic center were then destroyed during the Second World War. - https://turismo.abruzzo.it/chieti/ortona/
