Baschi is one of the largest municipalities in the province of Terni. Probably of Etruscan origin, but with extensive Roman-era evidence, its name derives from the Latin 'vasculum', where the root 'vas' means basin, hollow. The origin of this name seems confirmed by the particular terrain configuration, featuring numerous depressions and basins along the Tiber River. From the 11th century, Baschi has a history of adventurous events that saw it as a free commune and then under the rule of the powerful Baschi lordship, Ghibelline, participating in numerous struggles against the opposing Guelph factions. In 1860, with Orvieto and Todi, it voted for annexation to the new Italian State.
