'Beautiful City' is the meaning of the name of Gallipoli, a seaside town lying like a mirage on the Ionian coast, about 40 km from Lecce.
One of the most fascinating places in Italy. Over the centuries it was conquered by the Romans then passed to the Byzantines, Swabians and Angevins and in 1841 under Venetian control. At the end of the 16th century, due to its particular strategic position it became one of the most important commercial centers of the Mediterranean Sea.
