Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI - Alatri is an Italian municipality of 29,642 inhabitants in the province of Frosinone in Lazio.
It is one of the main cities of Ciociaria and the third in the province by population after Frosinone and Cassino. It is the ancient Aletrium, which was one of the main centers of the Italic people of the Ernici. Famous above all for the pre-Roman acropolis surrounded by megalithic walls, still well preserved, from which the Porta Maggiore stands out for its imposing nature, it also possesses a significant heritage of monuments of notable architectural and artistic interest, such as the Romanesque-Gothic collegiate church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the co-cathedral basilica of San Paolo, the churches of San Francesco and San Silvestro, the proto-cenobium of San Sebastiano, the 19th-century monumental fountains, Palazzo Gottifredo and Palazzo Conti-Gentili adorned with a large mural sundial.
