27.5.2016 While reading Roklun's report http://www.hribi.net/izlet/playa_del_socorro_pico_del_teide_/144/2603/5818 many people catch themselves wanting to try something like that too. My wife and I were back on Tenerife in May and due to logistics, repeating the whole route is really tricky as returning to the valley in the evening is impossible. We decided on an adapted version from the coast to the summit. Yesterday we split the crew in half. The cycling part started on the bike a bit above the coast, the car part moved to the starting point from the most suitable spot at 2300m. We locked the rented bike safely in the car and headed to El Teide. The more cautious car part turned around about 200m below the summit due to the storm, the cycling part went almost on its knees to the top. It blew his cap off. The summit picture is thus from last year as taking a photo this year would be impossible. The cable car stopped running already during the day, so no one checked our "no-permits". Let the GPS track be proof of the ascent to the summit.

Over the weekend I wanted before moonrise, so in complete darkness between 11pm and 2am to photograph the dark sky with the Milky Way, as Vršič is currently the highest point we can drive to. Disappointment! I don't understand why Tičarjeva koča is equipped with a spotlight? Such a strong light doesn't belong in the mountains, as lighting into the dark night makes no sense! I wonder what motive the manager or caretaker of the hut has for such behavior!? The hut should have a light sign and not a spotlight. Attaching pictures!

From data on hribi.net I put together a table for fun that reveals activities of 5 selected long-time posters on this forum. We all posted one report in the last 3 days. Darinka delights us all year with many reports, she's my birth year, but we haven't met yet. I've met Ločanka and lijaneja in person and both attach lots of photos to the report. Ločanka has a nice habit of labeling panoramas with peak names, which seems more than welcome for lesser-known mountains. All three are among the absolutely most active. Added Piko, whom I haven't (yet) met and who by style and frequency falls into the same category as me. She posts tour descriptions rarely, but chooses photos wisely and each post gets lots of visits. Maybe someone laughs at the table!? Stats include every reply or comment, which blurs the value of the numbers a bit....

Vošca is a convenient target for escaping the fog when it covers most of the lowlands. We were surprised that there were few visitors today, with my daughter we noticed only three. Usually December visits required at least gaiters, today there was only the last 15 minutes of walking on hard snow. Maybe it will attract someone in the next days.

Šmarna gora and Grmada offer in good weather views to quite distant horizon. North to Obirja ~40 km, south to Snežnik ~60 km, by my estimate the farthest point SE Trdinov vrh ~80 km. West Triglav is ~55 km away. Every view in the opposite direction cheers me up, as I often searched in vain for the pair Šmarna gora and Grmada in haze and smog. Today it showed nicely from nearby Tošča ~11.5 km.

The view from the "home hill" is taken from Grmada. This southern "part" of the more famous Šmarna gora even has its own description on these pages with many approaches... https://www.hribi.net/gora/grmada/5/451, on the forum we find plenty of Slovenian Grmadas and one just for access to Grmada via climbing path https://www.hribi.net/trenutne_razmere/slo/grmada_-plezalna_pot/5/934. Since tinky no longer informs us about current conditions on Šmarna gora after 2023, rarely does anyone think it's worth posting a nice picture, e.g. as a hint for escaping above the fog expected in the coming days and weeks... Praise to Peter P for the Sunday post.... Grmada is also my home hill, as I see the entire southern slope from my yard... In winter months, walking to Grmada is friendlier and lonelier than ascending the northern neighbor...

For observing the interesting lunar eclipse Šplevta seemed almost ideal choice, of course assuming clear weather. Cloudiness in the east led me to a more comfortable spot a bit lower. Unfortunately cirrus cloudiness was so thick that Moon broke through only around 21h, when total eclipse was already over. But it cleared nicely after 23h, when landscape got interesting touch of magic. If B2 wasn't occupied, probably would have bivied midnight photography. Morning jump to Dovški križ and down screes to Vrata.

Praiseworthy description of a long and quite demanding tour... you probably took quite some hours despite the fast pace, as on these pages we find a description that the ascent to Razor alone takes 7h10 (which seems overestimated to me)... maybe someone is interested in how much time you actually walked? *** A few years ago with my son we completed a similar loop, but included ascent through the 2nd window to Prisojnik, which took 8 h... almost Red Bull pace. For such long loops it's relatively hard to find a description or rating on hribi.net...

Trobec, I hope you keep your own word and don't reply to me, or really ignore me. After viewing the pictures from the trip, which I also did at your age, I had the same remark as mosovnik. Bloody snow without a comment was the picture that bothered me. I didn't intend to write anything, but your insulting reply to mosovnik bothered me. How could a mere reminder from the category of older »person« who doesn't know how to bring the description himself (to the ass) bother you. I know very little about trolling, since they taught us less important things in school back then, like etiquette. https://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolanje You quickly judged that I never write anything. If you think so, then it must be true. Good luck!

The reply to mosovnik is neither polite nor correct... I've been literate for 60 years and with glasses I see sharply, but I can't read comments under 30 pictures. How do you know that 99% of people have no problems? They just accept that some authors upload n pictures and that's all the effort!? You probably think everyone reads the blog!? The purpose of these pages is primarily to post current conditions... and not necessarily blogger promotion!

Klek is the mountain above Ogulin, which can be seen from the slopes of Gorjanci and many higher Slovenian peaks. The shape stands out with the characteristic form of a rocky outlier. It imprinted itself in my memory in early youth when I spent a few vacation days each year in Bela Krajina. From the house of my grandparents there was a nice view to the south with the silhouette of Klek. I postponed the visit from year to year, since the ascent due to the long drive and small height difference can hardly be classified as a hiking tour. I wanted to be at the summit in clear weather, as I had noticed it on many of my photos from the Kamnik Alps. Such a day "happened" yesterday after the passage of the cold front… With my wife, while clicking on webcams in the morning, we did not hesitate. Pictures are more eloquent than description. Every time I carry a few kg of gear, I wonder why… but when I compare the photos with those taken with the mobile phone, I breathe a sigh of relief. To Triglav it is 160 km and to Grintovec 130 km air distance. Access yesterday was safe only with hiking boots, but on the iced snow of the last 100 m it becomes a serious winter ascent, especially if the ropes are under the snow.

In the clear morning today one could see to the horizon and probably many don't know that in such conditions the peaks in Gorski Kotar are nicely visible... in the West the full Moon was setting ... just a bit after sunrise..

still, after testing many mobile apps, the best for me is https://www.udeuschle.de/panoramas/makepanoramas_en.htm I identify most peaks this way easily only at home on PC. Without glasses at my age on mobile and in the field it doesn't work, which isn't practical and I'd need binoculars too for viewing peaks.... Sadly the peak database in Slovenia is poor compared to Italy or Austria.... !?
