I'd like to buy gaiters but I have no experience in this area and since I don't want to buy a cat in a bag I need some advice

Is it necessary for them to be Gore-Tex or can they be from some other material and still waterproof?

Do I need to pay attention to the attachment method? Somewhere I read to watch the straps so they don't catch in crampons, I don't know well what they meant.

What else do I need to watch out for?
