Danger level 2 – moderate

Southern Julian Alps, Central Julian Alps, Eastern Julian Alps, Western Julian Alps, Kamnik Alps, Savinja Alps and Carinthia, Western Karawanks, Central Karawanks

Weak layers persist deep in the snowpack
The problem consists of weak layers in the snowpack located deeper within it. If loading exceeds the load-bearing capacity of these deeper weak layers, deep and large avalanches may be triggered. Such weak layers are particularly numerous on slopes above the forest.

Snowpack
Danger signs
dp.1: deep hard slab weak layer
The snow has settled and, particularly on sun-facing aspects, has already reformed quite well. Snow layers have bonded together, and the surface is crusty in many places. Deep below the surface in the old snowpack, several weak layers of facets and rounded grains are forming.

Weather
Weather will be variable to mostly cloudy, with summits often in clouds. Less cloud cover in the morning in the eastern Karawanks. Local showers will occur, mainly in the Julian Alps and foothills in the morning, and in the afternoon also in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the western and central Karawanks. Weak to moderate west to southwest winds will blow. At midday, temperature around 3 °C at 1500 m, around -3 °C at 2500 m.

Outlook
Weather and avalanche conditions will be similar in the coming days.
