High avalanche danger 18.1.2014

18.01.2014
Due to the large amount of freshly fallen snow, the avalanche danger in the high mountains of the Julian Alps is at level 4 on the five-level scale. On the Italian side of Kanin at an altitude slightly above 1800 m, about 60 cm has already fallen in the last deterioration, on the Slovenian side, where there are currently no official measurements due to a cable car malfunction, probably even more, as about 100 liters of rain per square meter fell in Bovec in just 24 hours.

Avalanche danger is also increased elsewhere in the mountains.

It will continue to snow in the mountains today and tomorrow, occasionally even on Monday.

Due to the high avalanche danger, we advise against visiting the high mountains for a while, and greater caution is needed elsewhere.
