Description of mountain:
Zuckerhütl, at 3,507 m the highest peak of the Stubai Alps, is one of the most coveted high-alpine objectives in Tyrol: its good accessibility despite not being the easiest mountain to reach is due to its position as the king of the popular Stubai Alps near the "Stubaier Gletscher" ski area, where cable cars take you above 3,000 m significantly shortening the approach; its attractive, distinctly recognizable shape resembling a sugarloaf over vast glaciers; and the expansive views befitting the highest summit in the wider area.
Although there are several routes to the base of its summit rock structure, there is only one (modestly marked) route to the top: the mountain is notoriously crumbly, making approaches from other directions risky. The otherwise short summit push requires exposed, unprotected climbing up to grade II on unstable terrain in places.
True to expectations for the group's monarch, the summit offers superb panoramic views in all directions: the neighboring Ötztal Alps led by Wildspitze and Hohe Geige to the west, the eastern Stubai Alps and Zillertal Alps to the east; to the north, views across the vast Sulzenauferner glacier lead to the Stubai Valley and ranges above it, while to the south lies Italian South Tyrol below.
