Velika Baba (Kanin)

Description of mountain:
Velika Baba is the southernmost two-thousander of the Kanin mountains. It is separated from the main ridge to the north by the saddle Med Baban, over 100 m lower; to the east and northeast are the Kaninski podi, to the south it steeply descends to the lower Mala Baba and Skutnik, to the west it steeply falls toward the Rezija Valley. The view reaches from nearby Visoki Kanin, Prestreljenik, Veliki Babanski Skedanj, Rombon and other less-known peaks in the range to Mangart, Jalovec, Bavški Grintovec, peaks above Kriški podi, Triglav, Kanjavec, Lepo Špičje to the Krn mountains. In front of it is the Polovnik ridge, below it the Soča Valley, a bit further right the ridges of Stol and Matajur. The horizon over the ridges of Skutnik, Muzci and Lopič concludes at the Karnijski Amariani saddle, Pisimoni, Zuc dal Bor; in clear weather it reaches all the way to Antelao, Pelmo and Marmolada in the Dolomites.
