Bukovniško jezero

Description of lake:
Bukovniško Lake is located on the southeast of Goričko; it is 500 m long, up to 200 m wide, and more than 5 m deep at its deepest point, otherwise 2 to 3 m. The lake was formed in the mid-20th century when the Bukovniški stream was dammed. The original purpose of the dam was mainly to hold back high spring waters, and during droughts the water would be used for field irrigation. The latter never materialized as fishermen began using the lake for raising fish in standing waters.
Today, around the lake—which is a well-known tourist spot—runs a forest educational trail just under 2 km long, and tourist fishing has also developed by the lake. The surroundings of the lake are known as an energy spot, and near the nearby chapel of St. Vid there is a healing spring that helps with head problems, especially vision and hearing.
