Babji zob

Description of peak:
Babji zob is a lookout point above the village of Kupljenik near Bled. The precipitous peak, which has a registration box, has a beautiful view of part of the Lower Bohinj Mountains and the mountains around Triglav.

Old people say that an old crone lived on the Jelovci plateau. Some even claimed that she was more than 150 years old, that she was a witch who hid there, otherwise she would have perished at the stake. Baba collected herbs, practised witchcraft and potions, and sent her spells to the valley.
Everyone in the valley was afraid of Baba, because when she sent spells, none of the peasants ventured into the fields or the wods, because even today the devil's viper lurks there, and many a peasant can be instantly killed by her spells.
But when she was old, she was no longer so good at picking herbs, because her time was slowly coming. Nobody knew how old she was, because she had already picked well over a hundred.
One day, when the old woman had not gathered enough herbs, she threw spells over the edge of the plateau in anger, and behold the old woman slips on the plateau. And when she stumbled into the depths of the vast whence her old spells could still be heard.
And from the echoes of the mountains the spell was heard even in the valley:
Thou shalt no more steep thyself as before, O deer, make a notch on this place at once.
And ever since then, at the end of Jelovica, ending towards Bohinjska Bela, there has always been seen the great Babji zob, which for hundreds of years has been so called by all from generation to generation. And there is still a cottage in the vicinity, which has had more than three owners.
